From Immigrant to Impact

"Sagar Patagundi brought honesty and heart to our Youth Rights Conference. His personal story was powerful, grounded in lived experience and shared with clarity, humility, and purpose. Sagar has a way of meeting people exactly where they are, whether they're students just beginning to find their voice or adults still learning how to use theirs well.  His message was deeply inspiring and underscored how conviction and a deep respect for all people fuels both personal growth and collective impact.

I’ve known Sagar Patagundi for many years, and he has always been a teacher to those around him — including me. His insight, integrity, and commitment to justice made it clear early on that he would become a transformational leader. Hearing him share his story as a keynote speaker had a powerful impact on both me and our students, inspiring deeper reflection, courage, and action. His work today as a DEI consultant reflects the same depth and purpose I saw from the very beginning.

Sagar Patagundi’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion pre-dates those terms becoming commonplace, particularly outside of an academic environment. Through storytelling, Sagar invites vulnerability, laying the foundation for honest and productive discussions and self-reflection. Tough conversations can be scary, but Sagar excels at calling in and not calling out. His work with the ACLU included sharing his journey as a former undocumented immigrant with graduate students, lawmakers, and communities across Kentucky, helping to drive awareness and advocate for policy changes that impact immigrant rights and inclusion.
